So I’ve had this website for awhile now. I’ve toyed with a few ideas as to what I wanted to do with it.
I considered a full-on Lifehacker type site with information on everything from how to program your DVR using your voice to how to start a fire in the wilderness using nothing but your toenail clippings and some animal scat. But I didn’t really want to research and write all that stuff or hire someone else to do it for me.
In a series of fits and starts, I got pretty far into a concept of building an actual business called “BrightHacks” that provided services and training on all of the wondrous and enthralling things I’ve learned after about a decade working full-time online. That could have worked but, sadly, I didn’t really want to be a marketing guy and that’s really where that business idea was headed.
Eventually however, what I really wanted to do here came to light. I love the way things that are meant to be just find there way to the surface, don’t you?
What I settled on, what you can see developing here day-by-day, month-by-month, is simply my personal blog. If it doesn’t really look like a personal blog that’s just because this isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve been building websites and writing professionally since 2009. I’ll get around to writing more of my story sooner or later and link to it here. (If there’s no link, I didn’t do it yet!)
So being a pro and all, I won’t be just randomly musing. There won’t be much about my pets (though I am an animal lover to the bone), there won’t be very many family pictures (although one of my few true passions in life is my family), and there won’t be any personal opinions on politics or anything exceptionally divisive (assuming things don’t get completely out of control… which appears to be currently at a 12.3% probability). Instead I’ll focus on those topics that meet my two main criteria:
- I have to be interested enough in the topic to really dig in… enough to write about it well.
- The topic has to have the potential of being substantially helpful to the lives of a large number of readers.
In other words… I’ll write what I know, if I think it can help you.
Questions, Discussion, and the BrightHacks Community
This blog is meant to be the real thing… comments and all! I’m looking forward to having a real discussion with you here. But one thing I’ve learned very painfully is that open comments equals spam, so you’ll have to create a BrightHacks account to join in. I don’t need anything top-secret from you though, so it’s no big deal.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you as we build BrightHacks together.
Thanks for visiting!
